How to Create a Modern Tablescape for Friendsgiving

All hail the dream Friendsgiving! Mental image: Monica Geller baking a turkey and decorating the apartment to the nines. Let’s just hope Rachel Green isn’t trying her hand at the trifle dessert that consisted of ladyfingers, jam, and beef sauteed with peas and onions. Yuck! If you’re excited to host a Friendsgiving this year but don’t know how to decorate your space, you’re in the right place. Let’s talk about how to tastefully decorate a dining room that’ll make all your friends envious.
While Thanksgiving is certainly all about the brown, yellow, and orange colors, too much deep brown will lead your friends to believe you’re recreating a kitchen area fit for That 70’s Show. Last year, Joanna Gaines gave Southern Living readers this tip: mix old and new. For example, use rustic brown chargers and set white modern plates on top. Add a touch of charm with antique serving tools and utensils. Wrap a neutral-colored cloth napkin in a gold or rose gold napkin holder for the ultimate eye-popping detail. This will maintain a clean aesthetic while still giving the table character.
A mauve tablecloth is perfect for a modern-style Friendsgiving. Think of the linen tablecloth as an art canvas and all the things you add to it as the paint. A neutral-colored tablecloth welcomes greenery, copper candle holders and white candles that create a rustic look without going overboard. Keep in mind that there will be several dishes on the table, so keep your space minimal and don’t add too many pieces.
Display a Showstopping Centerpiece
You had to see this shameless self-promo coming! Charleston Flower Market will be crafting the perfect seasonal flower arrangements for the holidays and you don’t want to miss out. If you’re celebrating Friendsgiving away from Charleston or simply want to create your own arrangement, we have a couple of tips for you. 1. Keep your arrangement short and sweet. This will ensure all guests can see and talk to each other! 2. Combine authentic greenery with rustic pine cones and in-season flowers. Some of our favorite fall flowers are sunflowers, alyssums, chrysanthemums, and celosia, also known as a cockscomb. One of our favorite fall bouquets perfect for a showstopping Friendsgiving centerpiece is our Urban Farmhouse arrangement!
There are a couple of options when it comes to bringing authentic elements to the Friendsgiving table. For one, if the weather allows, you can host a Friendsgiving outside in a garden area where you will be surrounded by fall leaves and rich natural hues. Alternatively, you can add a mix of white and green gourds among the greenery you have running down the center of the table. Either way, the authentic elements will add the perfect touch to your incredible dining area.
It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, but a little sentimental gift goes a long way. Whether your friends are each cooking their favorite dish or simply driving over to your house to celebrate with you, a handmade thank you can be the icing on the cake. A small wooden name card with each person’s name written on it can be the perfect way to say “thank you.” Search Etsy for Thanksgiving name cards and simply write each person’s name on each card in cursive for the perfect sentimental touch. Your friends will love it!
Have you hosted Friendsgiving before, or will this be your first year? Even if you haven’t planned on it, this year is the perfect time to start an annual Friendsgiving tradition. You’ll have the perfect excuse to decorate your living area, plus, it will be Pinterest-perfect for the rest of the holiday season!
